Technology Observation and Parent Support (TOPS)

Whats is TOPS?

TOPS systems are comprised of a small video camera device, a laptop and/or video monitor, and a keyboard. Parents press a button on the keyboard to activate the system, which then records the behavior. The video system immediately captures the behavior, as well as what has happened two minutes prior and two minutes after the button was pressed (the amount of time can be modified based on the needs of the family). Once the behavior is captured, the family has the opportunity to review clips. Once reviewed, they then have the option of deleting the clip or sending it to CNNH.

How Does it Work?

Prior to the TOPS installation, an initial behavior evaluation will be held at the CNNH office with a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). This evaluation may be covered by insurance. This appointment is necessary to complete a brief observation of the child, learn about the child’s preferences, and the behaviors concerning the parent.

In order to install the TOPS, it is ideal that families have access to a wireless Internet connection and to their IP address and password. However, there are options available for families who do not have access to the Internet. TOPS systems are usually placed within the home for anywhere between 2 and 4 weeks.

Clips may be sent to the CNNH office at anytime. Behavior specialists typically view the clips in groups to gather data on the function of behaviors. Behavior Specialists will analyze the video in order to determine the cause and maintaining features of the behaviors. After the clips are analyzed, the behavior specialist will complete a write up that will describe the behaviors observed in the clips, provide evidence based recommendations and strategies to treat the behaviors, and offer supporting materials, such as token boards and visual schedules. The report, materials, and parent training will be provided at a follow up meeting at the CNNH office.

Technology Assisted Classroom Teaching (TACT)

What is TACT?

TACT systems are comprised of a small video camera device, a laptop and/or video monitor, and a keyboard. Teachers press a button on the keyboard to activate the system, which then records the behavior. The video system immediately captures the behavior, as well as what has happened two minutes prior and two minutes after the button was pressed (the amount of time can be modified based on the needs of the teacher). Once the behavior is captured, the teacher has the opportunity to review clips. Once reviewed, they then have the option of deleting the clip or sending it to CNNH.

How Does it Work?

In order to install the TACT, it is ideal that the classroom has access to a wireless Internet connection and to their IP address and password. However, there are options available for schools who do not have access to the Internet. TACT systems are usually placed within the school for anywhere between 3 and 8 months.
